The St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation (STEDF) has released its third quarter reports on St. Tammany economic trends and parish growth. The area saw a sharp rise in commercial building permits, with third quarter totals rising 127 percent above the preceding second quarter and 69.3 percent above the third quarter of 2013.
“This exemplifies the significant impact of business growth in our area, as well as the difference one great month can make,” said Brenda Bertus, CEO of STEDF. “Though the first and second quarters underperformed compared to the previous year, the demand for these permits – in July especially – changed the overall trend of commercial building for 2014.”
In July, commercial building permits increased 144 percent from the same month in 2013, bringing third quarter totals for permits issued to 127 and year-to-date totals to 231.
The third quarter Economic Trends and Parish Growth reports from STEDF also feature new designs. The Economic Trends report discusses employment, sales tax collections, and housing trends as well as other factors that contribute to the state of the local economy. The Parish Growth report measures overall parish growth, combining economic factors into a unifying picture.
Bertus said, “We hope the new style and format will help readers digest the information more easily. Understanding the distinct economic elements and how they influence the parish is crucial for making business decisions.”
