St. Tammany commercial building permits skyrocket in third quarter
STEDF has released newly redesigned reports on St. Tammany economic trends and parish growth for the third quarter. The area saw a sharp rise in commercial building permits, with third quarter totals rising 127 percent above the preceding second quarter and 69.3 percent above the third quarter of 2013.

 

Housing sales and construction rise in St. Tammany Parish
STEDF has released its 10-Year Economic Summary. According to the data presented, both single family building permits and housing sales have risen steadily since 2010.

 

STEDF partner featured in Louisiana Innovation Month
The Para Ladder, invented by Mandeville resident René de la Tour of We Care Designs, helps wheelchair users move from their chairs to the floor and back without further assistance. In recognition of de la Tour’s ingenuity, Louisiana Economic Development (LED) featured We Care Designs for Louisiana Innovation Month.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics: Employment Situation
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 321,000 in November, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Job gains were widespread, led by growth in professional and business services, retail trade, health care, and manufacturing.

 

Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) Industry Day -- February 3; Stennis Space Center
The SSC Procurement/Small Business Office and Small Business Consortium invites the SDVOSB community to attend the NASA SSC SDVOSB Industry Day scheduled for February 3. Participants must register for this free event ahead of time. Businesses will have an opportunity to network with the NASA Office of Small Business Programs, NASA Small Business Specialists from each center, SSC Small Business Technical Coordinators, and SSC prime contractors.

 

U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis News
The October 2014 international trade deficit decreased 0.4 percent from September to $43.4 billion. Exports increased 1.2 percent to $197.5 billion, and imports rose 0.9 percent to $241 billion.
