Commercial building permits led parish growth in 2014
STEDF has released its fourth quarter reports on St. Tammany economic trends and parish growth. Commercial building permits rose nearly 30 percent in the fourth quarter, amounting to 10.4 percent growth for the entire year.

Louisiana exports total more than $65 billion in 2014
Louisiana’s 2014 worldwide merchandise exports increased by 2.76 percent over 2013, according to a report released by the World Trade Center of New Orleans. For the year, Louisiana exports totaled $65.1 billion. These numbers mark the sixth consecutive year of export growth for the state.

SBC focuses on NASA Construction Contracts -- March 31; Stennis Space Center
The next general meeting of the Stennis Business Consortium (SBC) will include a special presentation on the upcoming NASA-Stennis procurement under the Multiple-Award Construction Contracts (MACCs). Under this contract, NASA competitively selected 10 companies that would be responsible for major construction projects at Stennis for a 5-year period. Following the presentation, the current MACC contract holders have been invited to have tables to meet with other companies to explore strategic partnerships and to learn more about the capabilities of small local companies.

Employers Can Receive Thousands for Training New Hires On-the-Job
The First Planning District Workforce Investment Board has received a $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to help reconnect the un- and underemployed, long-term unemployed, recently separated veterans and others to high-demand, high-wage jobs. A primary focus of funds is being directed towards On-the-Job Training (OJT) which offers partial wage reimbursement to employers.
